Shoppers flock to town centre to support French Market

Date:

Crowds of shoppers attended Hailsham’s Summer Market in the town centre on Saturday (20 July), an event organised by Hailsham Town Council with the support of its project partners.

Vicarage Field was home to a range of street market stalls selling locally sourced food, as well as gifts and accessories, along with a specialist French Market courtesy of traders Le Marche, to tempt visitors.

Shoppers and visitors to the town centre enjoyed an array of live music including performances from The Sussex Stompers and Peter Willson Quartet, and Hailsham FM broadcast live throughout the day.

Councillor Nigel Coltman, Vice-Chairman of the Town Council’s Communities Committee said; “The Summer Market resulted in a busy Hailsham town centre on Saturday and I’m delighted all our events organised by the Town Council and supported by its community partners are always well attended and appeal to people of all ages.”

“Our committee has worked hard in recent months to make the necessary preparations for the Hailsham Sussex Day and Summer Market events and is grateful to everyone who has supported us from the outset.”

Deputy Town Clerk and Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira said: “The enthusiasm of not only shoppers, but local producers and traders, has helped establish our markets.”

“The Hailsham Street Market and its associated special events such as last Saturday’s Summer Market clearly add to the vitality of Hailsham as a market town and more and more of us are realising the importance of supporting our local producers and traders by purchasing items there.”

The Town Council has already started organising this year’s Hailsham Christmas Market which will take place in the high street and Vicarage Field on Saturday 14th December. Further details of this event will be announced later this year.
