Residents throughout Rother can now apply for financial help if they are struggling with their finances this winter.
Up to £250 to help with utilities and four weeks’ worth of food vouchers that can be spent in most major supermarkets can be applied for by residents, which equates to £25 per week for each adult and £15 per week for each child. The Supermarket vouchers can be used in Morrisons, Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Iceland, M&S and Waitrose.
Rother District Council has been given a £120,000 share of the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund to help fund the scheme for those most in need this winter.
Applications are now open for families and individuals to apply for money to pay for food or bills for utilities, such as gas, electricity and water.
Cllr Terry Byrne, the district council’s portfolio holder for housing and homes, said: “This money will provide a much-needed lifeline to our most vulnerable residents who would otherwise struggle to afford to buy food for themselves and their families or heat their homes.
“The funding we have been provided with is limited, but we want to try and help as many people as we can this winter and would encourage those in need to talk to us about how we can support them.”
The grant is open to residents of Rother who are aged over 18 and in receipt of a means tested benefit. The Rother scheme will run until March 31, 2022, unless all the Government funds have been awarded before that date.
The district council is working with a range of partner agencies, including Rother Voluntary Action, the Hastings Advice and Representation Centre (HARC) and Citizens Advice, to coordinate the distribution of the funds locally.
