FAMILIES with children suffering from the devasting effects of cancer came together for a free skating session at Eastbourne’s Lightning Fibre Ice Rink last night (Thursday).
Almost 40 children took some time out to socialise with others and enjoyed the skating session which also included a visit from Father Christmas. The free session was offered by Feastival Events, the company behind the Ice Rink which is located outside the Enterprise Centre in Eastbourne.
It was organised by Polegate charity, Children with Cancer Fund, which grants wishes to children up to the age of eighteen, and their families, who have or have had cancer.
Chris Downton from the charity told Eastbourne News: “A huge thank you to Lightning Fibre and Feastival Events for allowing the children on the ice last night. They all had a fantastic time which allowed them all to be together and not be on their own in the run-up to Christmas.
Christmas can be very isolating for families going through cancer, so this was a great opportunity to let them know they are not alone. It’s paramount that the children meet others with the same issues and show them that we’re just one big family”
It’s the second year the charity has been able to hold the gathering at the Ice Rink, which was visited by skating champion Robin Cousins MBE yesterday, who praised its accessibility credentials.
David Monckton from Feastival Events said: “We always like to support decent local charities, so we’ve taken Children with Cancer and Forward Facing charities under our wing and allow them to enjoy the ice rink.
It’s heartwarming to see them enjoy their time here and create some fantastic memories, especially at this time of year.”
