NINFIELD is preparing for a spectacular weekend of celebration as the Carnival returns in full swing to mark its 90th anniversary, with the much-missed carnival procession making a grand comeback for the first time since 2019.
The festivities begin on Friday evening (June 20), with Ninfield’s Got Talent, showcasing local acts and entertainment. Visitors can also enjoy a food van, bar, sweet stalls and a dazzling light show which sets the tone for a packed weekend of fun.
Saturday (June 21) kicks off with the procession at midday, starting from Lower Street and parading through the village before opening the fete on the recreation ground.
The procession is a highlight for many, and this year’s will be led by Carnival Queen Esme, a fitting figurehead who was just a baby during the very first Ninfield Carnival in 1935.
Queen Esme is joined by a Carnival Court of nine local children from the village and school, seven princesses and two princes aged between two and nine.
The Solstice Fete will offer something for everyone, with attractions including craft stalls, fairground rides, an assault course, tug of war, coconut shy, china smash, birds of prey, BBQ and a tea tent, making it the perfect family day out.
As the sun sets, the celebrations continue with live music from Dangerzone on Saturday evening, bringing the community together for a lively close to a historic weekend.
This year’s carnival supports the Association of Carers, with all proceeds going towards their vital work across the region.
