A reactor and transformer each weighing around 150 tonnes will travel from Shoreham to Ninfield on Saturday 19 March on its way to be connected to the National Grid.
It’ll pass through Polegate to join the A259 towards Bexhill – motorists are being warned of potential delays in the afternoon.
The two large pieces of equipment, which were shipped from Ellesmere Port to Shoreham last week, are now being transported by land to a substation near Ninfield in East Sussex.
The delivery is crucial for the UK electricity market. The Ninfield substation helps to bring power to thousands of homes and businesses across the region. It also serves as a key asset for the electrical connection between England and France, ensuring the UK has access to a broad and stable energy supply. Amidst rising energy prices, keeping the power grid in the best possible condition is more important than ever.
A police escort will accompany the convoy on its journey, which will include the construction of temporary bridges to support the equipment’s weight and temporary closure of a section of the A27 between Ashcombe roundabout and Southerham roundabout with a diverted route along the A270, A259 and A26 in place from 6am to 8pm on the day of the delivery.
Project Supervisor Jon Warlow said: ‘We’re working with partners across the South East to make sure we minimise disruption whilst completing this essential journey. This delivery will ensure our energy infrastructure in the region stays strong for years to come.’
