East Sussex Highways officers have visited a road in Hailsham that residents branded as a ‘complete mess’.
Old Swan Lane has been the focus of many controversial stories over the last few months and local residents raised concerns about abandoned signs, trees and flood water covering the road.
In response, East Sussex Highways sent a Steward to assess the road and have requested a number of changes, in the hope of improving it for motorists and local home owners.
An East Sussex Highways spokesman said: “Having been made aware of the situation by residents, our highways steward has been to inspect Old Swan Lane and has requested repairs to a pothole and a section of the edge of the carriageway that has become eroded.
“We’re aware of flooding along the lane which appears to be linked to the Southern Water treatment site and has been reported to the company for investigation and we have also arranged for a drainage engineer to visit the site to assess whether any work is required to our ditches or highways gullies.
“We have removed some of our highways signs which had been left at the site and are making enquiries to identify the landowner to ask that they remove the felled trees from the verge. We’re grateful to the resident for making us aware of these issues.”
