A COMPANY which is managing the Body Shop’s reorganisation has announced 75 shops will close, including one in East Sussex.
The Body Shop was put into administration in early February. With the restructuring of the cosmetic chain, including reducing staff at its head office. This means about 750 to 800 employees will lose their jobs.
The affected shops will close in the coming weeks. FRP Advisory, which is managing the Body Shop’s reorganisation, has said it will be supporting affected staff with redundancy payments.
The shop that is set to close in East Sussex is its Hastings branch, while 116 of its other shops, including ones in Brighton, Eastbourne and Worthing, will remain open.
The Body Shop was founded by Dame Anita Roddick in 1976, with the first store opened in Brighton.
In 2006, Dame Anita sold the company and since then, it has had three owners, which were L’Oreal, Natura and then to Aurelius last year.
The Body Shop has enjoyed great success in the past, but competition from the likes of Lush and Ritual, as well as online shopping, has severely impacted its sales.
