‘KNIVES Down, Gloves Up’, is the message behind an initiative to raise money to support the family of a 20-year-old man who was stabbed in Hailsham recently.
Hailsham Boxing Club will be hosting a 24-hour Punch Bag Marathon at its gym in George Street, to not only raise awareness or knife crime but also raise money for the family of Billy Ripley who died in Vicarage Field on Thursday 29th August, after being stabbed.
The event will start on Friday 13th September at 7pm and runs through until 7pm on Saturday night. Visitors will be invited to complete up to 30-minute sessions on the punch bag throughout the challenge.
Sam Buchanan who runs the Boxing Club said: “Anyone is also welcome to pop up for a tea or coffee and see our progress over the 24 hours. As a town, let’s show our support to the family. We would be grateful to anyone who wants to donate towards Billy’s funeral costs to give him the send-off he deserves.”
More than £5,000 has been raised since the fundraiser was launched online two weeks ago.
