A serious fire has broken out at a nursery garden.
Twelve fire engines were called to the scene at Eastbourne Road, Halland, at about 6.34am today (April 12).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue service has issued a statement on their Facebook page: “We’re attending a serious fire at a garden nursery on Eastbourne Road at Halland.
“Twelve fire engines are in attendance. Please avoid the area. If you are local, please keep doors and windows closed due to smoke.
“Crews are working hard and making steady progress. The road is closed.
“There continues to be smoke in the area.
“We expect to be on scene for several hours. Please continue to avoid the area.”
At about 9.45am the fire and rescue service reported they have scaled down to six fire engines and an aerial ladder.
By the evening, the incident has been scaled down to one fire engine and crews are damping down the area.
Station Manager Paul Coppard said: “This is obviously a very upsetting incident for the owners of the business.
“Initial crews understanding the size and scale of the incident early allowed extra resources to arrive in a timely manner to contain the fire and prevent it spreading into other areas.”
There were no reports of casualties.
The cause of the incident is currently unknown and an investigation is taking place.
The nursery remains closed until further notice, more information can be found on their website.
