ENGINEERS are currently working on a water main burst in Hailsham which has closed a busy route through the town.
Water was reported to be coming out of the road this morning (Sunday) which has left around 70 local properties without water.
Jamie Zelichowski, South East Water Distribution Manager, said: “We are very sorry to residents and motorists affected by a burst water main in Battle Road, Hailsham which happened today (6 October) at about 9.15am.
“Emergency repairs are underway with up to 70 properties affected by no water or low pressure.
“To ensure the safety of the public and our teams while the pipeline is fixed, Battle Road is closed to through traffic. We estimate repairs to the water main will be completed this afternoon, but the road will remain closed until it has been put back to its original condition.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience these unexpected supply issues have caused residents and the wider community.”
Local bus routes have been diverted due to the closure.
It is unknown how long the repairs will take to complete at this time.
