Claims a lawn treatment caused a number of Hailsham pets to be sick have been ruled out by the authorities.
A number of residents took to social media over the weekend reporting their dogs had become extremely ill after visiting the Western Road Recreation Ground. They said their dogs suffered from sickness and diarrhoea after a walk in the park.
Hailsham Town Council has been recently funding works to improve the conditions of both parks and there were claims this was responsible for the illnesses.
Responding to the reports, the contractors were contacted by the authorities and confirmed the lime pellets that were spread almost two weeks previous to the reports would not be responsible for the illnesses.
A spokesperson from Hailsham Town Council told Hailsham News; “Hailsham Active has advised the Town Council they have spoken to the contractors about this and they have used lime on numerous recreation grounds with no problem. When they were spreading, signs were put out and it was pellets that were spread, not dust.
The work on the Western Road Recreation Ground was completed on 30th May. We are not aware of any other work being done on the ground and neither are Hailsham Active or the Cricket Club. We have sought professional advice from a veterinary surgeon who has advised that the chance of lime fertilisers causing a dog to be sick is ‘highly unlikely’.’
