A series of events will take place across East Sussex to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day Landings.
In the early hours of June 6, 1944, Allied Forces landed on Normandy shores.
More than 150,000 soldiers from countries including the United Kingdom, United States, France, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Poland, former Czechoslovakia, Netherlands, Greece and Norway took part in the largest ever naval, land and air operation, battling valiantly to liberate France from German occupation.
The campaign, also known as Operation Overlord, became the pivotal turning point of victory in the Western Europe, and this led to the eventual surrender of Nazi Germany.
In the D-Day landings itself, more than 4,000 Allied troops died. Approximately 11,000 aircraft 7,000 ships and other vehicles were involved in the campaign, according to Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Town councils across East Sussex will be holding events to remember the incredible acts of bravery and sacrifice from those who fought for freedom and peace.
Bexhill
A procession will take place on Saturday, June 8 at Metropole Lawns at about 11.45am.
Ditchling
A commemoration service will take place at Ditchling War Memorial at 11am, attended by HM Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.
Eastbourne
A ceremony will take place outside Eastbourne Town Hall at 9am. A D-Day 80 Flag of Peace is raised as the mayor leads a minute’s silence.
A remembrance service will take place at the Eastbourne War Memorial Houses at 11am.
Royal British Legion and Eastbourne And District Veterans Association are also hosting a BBQ and music at 5pm at Oval Football Ground in Channel View road.
Newhaven
Newhaven Town Hall will be taking part in the International Tribute and Beacon Lighting at the West Quay Promontory. The event will start off with Meeching and District Bonfire Society Torch Light Procession at 8.50am.
Peacehaven
A commemoration will take place outside Gateway Café in Centenary Park, Piddinghoe Avenue, to commemorate the D-Day Landings at 6pm.

Seaford
The commemoration service will take place at Splash Point, starting at 8pm. There will be a proclamation from the town crier, music, and the lighting of the beacon at 9.15pm by Seaford Bonfire Society. Visit Seaford Town Council for more information.
