Community group calls for Bexhill residents to ‘unite for a brighter Christmas’

A COMMUNITY arts group has called for solidarity amongst Bexhill residents to “unite for a brighter Christmas” following a huge disappointment of the Christmas tree in Devonshire Square due to its lack of height and decorations.

W.Ave Arts has set up a crowdfund last week and already they have collected more than £1,160 in contributions.

The money will go towards a next year’s Christmas tree, decorations and supporting local events.

W.Ave Arts wrote on their crowdfund page: “In recent days, we’ve all noticed our social media feeds reflecting the challenges our beloved town faces.

“The festive season, usually a beacon of joy and unity, finds itself under the shadow of budget cuts.

“Yet, amidst these challenges, there’s a silver lining: our Mayor and community leaders are working tirelessly to resolve.

“This situation isn’t new; every year, the task of bringing festive cheer becomes a little harder for everyone.

“So, let’s come together in a spirit of positivity and support. By uniting our efforts, we can create a festive season that reflects the true heart and resilience of our community.

“It’s time for us to step forward, not just as individuals, but as a collective force for good, to ensure our town remains a place of joy and celebration.”

“Our Vision: If each of us in Bexhill contributes just £1, we can secure a joyous Christmas for next year.

“This simple act of giving can create a significant impact. We’re launching a community fund to bring cheer and warmth to every corner of Bexhill during the festive season.”

W.Ave Arts has also outlined their aims and what the contributions will go towards. They wrote:

• Immediate Action: Contributions start now to overcome any last-minute challenges.
• Transparency and Trust: As a non-profit dedicated to our community, we’ll manage the funds with full transparency and provide regular updates.
• Community-Led Decisions: In collaboration with local leaders, we’ll allocate funds where needed most — from a grand Christmas tree to supporting local events, decorations, and community meals.
• Inclusive Celebration: Our goal is for Bexhill to shine with the spirit of Christmas, ensuring a memorable time for all.

The organisation adds: “Join us in this endeavour. Every £1 counts, and each donor becomes part of this remarkable journey.

“Together, we can turn challenges into a celebration of community strength.

“Let’s unite for a brighter Christmas in Bexhill. Your contribution, big or small, makes all the difference.”

W.Ave arts has said they welcome suggestions and feedback from the community on how to they want next year’s Christmas in Bexhill should look like.
