Topping up gas and electricity keys
Hailsham Town Council has told Hailsham News that the Post Office remains open for today (24 March), this will be reviewed on a daily basis and communicated on its website if there’s any changes. In addition, Asda, Tesco and Costcutters also offer top up services. However, British Gas keys can only be topped up in Post Offices, so please contact Hailsham Town Council regarding their opening hours.

What is the situation for key workers at Supermarkets in Hailsham?
The government advice is that we all stay at home – however, you may travel to work if it is absolutely essential and you cannot work from home. Obviously, supermarket workers cannot work from home, so you are allowed to travel to and from work under the new guidelines.
Vehicle MoT’s and maintenance
There may find yourself in the situation of needing an MoT or essential services for your car, and need it to travel to work.
MoT testing for cars is to be reviewed in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. The Government has already suspended the annual roadworthiness test for heavy goods vehicles, buses and trailers. Now the Department for Transport could issue similar guidance for cars, motorcycles and light vans over the coming weeks if MoT test centres are forced to close by the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the Honest John website.
However, some local garages remain open but it is not sure if there are regarded as essential services as yet. There are calls for the Secretary of State to relax the law on MoT’s and Tax. Local garage HSS has given some information about their services.
