Hailsham Author Tony Flood has won the Wealden Writers Short Story Competition, held in conjunction with the Hailsham Festival, with his amusing entry ‘Learning from Henry’s mistake’ on the theme conservation and global warming.
At the Book Fair in Hailsham Parish Church on Saturday, Tony received the cup and a voucher providing dinner for two at Romeo and Juliet Italian Restaurant.
Runner-up Loraine Banks, who was unable to attend as she was on holiday, and third-placed Francis Wait will receive prizes donated by Hailsham Pavilion Cinema and Waitrose, respectively.
The Book Fair featured a talk by authors Ronda and David Armitage, and various authors had tables, including Anderida Writers trio Francis Wait and Tony and Heather Flood offering signed copies of their books, which are also available on Amazon.co.uk.
Mr Flood paid tribute to the hard work of Festival chairman Tony Biggin, the Wealden Writer’s Helene Ford and their fellow officials.
The Hailsham Festival continues until September 25th and includes the comedy ‘See How They Run’ at Summerheath Hall at 7.30pm from September 23 to 25. Full details of the remaining events can be found on the link Hailshamfestival.co.uk
