Eastbourne gift shop, Maybugs, forced to close after fire

Maybugs, Eastbourne’s newest gift shop was forced to close its doors after fire ripped through its third floor.

The blaze was discovered around 2:30pm on 18 September in the shop in Eastbourne’s Terminus Road and fire crews rushed to the scene to tackle the fire.

Fortunately, staff discovered it quickly before it took hold of the whole shop. Customers were evacuated from the shop, no one has been injured in the incident.

Greg Rose, owner of Maybugs told Hailsham News: “I’d like thank the emergency services for their incredibly quick response and for dealing with the fire extremely quickly.”

He added: “Luckily, not too much of the shop has been damaged and we hope to be back trading again as soon as it is declared safe.”

Update: Maybugs of Eastbourne will be back open for trading on Monday 20th September, after the building was declared safe.
