SIX Minutes to Midnight is a thrilling drama set in the last days of peace before the outbreak of World War 2.

It features the great Judi Dench and Jim Broadbent, who always draw a crowd to our lovely cinema, which was ranked 5th in a Timeout survey of independent cinemas in the UK!
It is though perhaps best known locally for being written partly by Eddie Izzard, who also features in it, and being set in Bexhill.
It is loosely based on truth. There was a boarding school in Bexhill in 1939 which was favoured by the Nazi elite as a place to send their daughters to learn English properly, but the rest is out of the creative minds of the writers.
I was inspired to research the actual school by the film. It does make a very interesting and surprising read! I think the citizens of Bexhill would have been very surprised if they knew the family names of the girls exercising on Bexhill Beach!
One thing though. Is that flarepath actually wide enough? I’m not sure that it is!
