In the 25th over, things took a turn and Newick went on the counter attack. Hitting the bowlers all around the ground, making things very difficult for the skipper. With the batsmen taking a fancy to S Mills (0-29) and M Anthony (0-20). A combination of a lot of extras, too many short balls and loose lines cost Hailsham for the rest of the innings as Newick finished on 208-6.
Hailsham set out to chase down the 209 required, with confidence after the previous week’s masterclass with the bat. The innings, however, didn’t get off to a good start with M Pannett (0) and M Dawber (0) getting out in the first over. S Kevern (25) and O McDonald (28) looked to recover the innings and did so taking it to the bowlers. Ollie was caught at long on by an outrageous catch which brought in S Dunning (33).
After these two got out, things went from good, to bad to worse very quickly as Hailsham lost quick wickets without putting many runs on the board. T Hicks (1), J Bellett (4) and T McDonald (4) all getting out in a short space of time. A Anthony (15) tried to stick around before being bowled not too long after the others were out. With S Mills (0*) and M Anthony (0) not lasting long either as Matt got one that kept a bit low.
Hailsham were all out for 122, with poor shot selection at the heart of most wickets.
Man of the Match goes to Ollie McDonald, for his all round performance on the best Saturday he has had this season.
They set about defending the total of 100 and got off to a good start reducing Mayfield to 12-3 after 8 overs. The wickets dried up as Mayfield dug in and reached their target with 10 overs to spare losing just 6 wickets in the process. S Abraham the pick of the bunch with figures of 3-18.
