A new adventure family film shot in and around Hailsham is set to hit the big screen next month following a successful showing in Cannes.
Award-winning film director Howard J. Ford believes; “We have an international disaster on our hands – well, actually in our hands.” With some young people reportedly spending up to 10 hours a day on social media he felt compelled to inspire his kids not to go down that same road.
Adventure Boyz is an action-packed movie featuring actors from Harry Potter, World War Z, and Tomb Raider and was filmed at a number of popular locations in Hailsham such as St. Mary’s Walk, Arlington Stadium, Herstmonceux Castle and many others. (Trailer below).
Howard told Hailsham News; “The day my two young sons stopped asking ‘What are we going to do today?’ and started asking ‘Can we go on your iPad?’, I had to do something and fast, before I lost them to a virtual world. When I told people the film was about encouraging kids to get back into real life adventures, not a single person said no, there was a ground swell of support and I knew then, this could strike a chord.”
He added; “Often, we have no idea what our children are looking at or who they are connecting with online. They used to look into our eyes, they used to climb trees, run around in mud and do all sorts of rough and tumble. Yes, they grazed their knees, yes, they got a few germs but they became stronger and fitter because of it. That’s what Adventure Boyz is all about, re-connecting to the real world. Re-connecting with us.”
A series of showings are taking place on selected dates at the Hailsham Pavilion from 20th July and every Friday during the school holidays in August. You can book tickets here.
