Hailsham FM launches on-air short story programme

95.9 Hailsham FM has embarked on an exciting new programme aimed at bringing local author’s stories to the Radio.  

String Town stories which airs for the first time on Boxing Day at 7pm on 95.9 Hailsham FM, is a collection of short stories taken from the successful book ‘Secrets with Surface’ written by Sussex author Alex Hudson.  

The weekly programme will feature a different story each episode from the collection.  The beautifully written stories are perfectly crafted to give the listener twists and turns and are perfect for radio, offering a break from music the opportunity to sit back and relax and listen to a bedtime story. 

Audio books and story telling has seen an increase in popularity in the last few years with major titles now all featuring in audio format. 

The station has enlisted a host voice actors all offering their services free of charge  – voices include Brian Capron former Coronation Street Actor famous for his portrayal of villian Richard Hillman. Brain will be reading the first 8 of the series others include Diny van Kleeff and singer Rick Bonner. 

To coincide with the new series, the station will also be launching a story writing competition for listeners of all ages to enter. Looking for stories no longer than 600 words. 

The three winning stories will be produced and voiced and will feature as part of the String Town series.  The closing date is 1st March 2022 and stories should be submitted by email to: competition@hailsham.fm. All entries should be over the age of 12 years and full resident of the UK. 

Wayne Spicer – Presenter and Director of Communications said: “I am so excited about our String Town stories and so pleased that Alex Hudson’s short stories are launching the series.”

He added: “I remember Alex chatting to me a few years ago on my show  when she launched her first novel ‘Beyond Redemption’ – she was so nervous but now to think her stories will inspire others to write is an absolute credit to her.”

95.9 Hailsham FM is the town’s very own community radio station and run by volunteers. It has been successfully broadcasting for the last four years to Hailsham and surrounding towns and villages.
