Hailsham Cricket Club hosted the biggest Sussex Cricket Foundation Girls Festival to date on Sunday.
Ten teams from seven different clubs met at Roebuck Park for a great day of U11 Girls cricket with St. James Montefiore B beating Stirlands CC in the final.
Hailsham A started off with a defeat to the eventual festival winners by 17 runs. In their second game, they beat Hurstpierpoint CC by 18 runs before finishing their three matches with a comprehensive victory over Brighton & Hove CC by 39 runs.
Although Hailsham B lost their three matches, the highlight was a marvellous effort in their second match which ended in a narrow defeat to eventual finalists Stirlands CC by just 9 runs.
During all of their matches, the Hailsham girls from both teams produced some tight bowling, big shots, tidy fielding and a superb team spirit. The Definitions Hair and Beauty Salon Hailsham player of the festival was Sophie Beck for a superb all round performance, including the shot of the day – a textbook cover drive that coach Jim Wise would’ve been proud of back in the day!
Bede’s Girls hosted Hailsham Girls this morning in a 12-over friendly match. Bede’s batted steadily and consistently throughout their innings, posting 81 for 2 in the face of some tight bowling. In reply, Hailsham got off to a quick start and at the halfway stage, were cruising at 63 for the loss of one wicket. They were pegged back over the next few overs but managed to reach 84 for 4 at the end of their 12 overs. A very enjoyable match, giving even more experience to the girls as they continue to progress and improve.
Massive thanks to Definitions Hair and Beauty Salon Hailsham for sponsoring the girls team.
