Residents will be able to take their overflow waste to a ‘pop-up tip’ which is to be trialled this week in Hailsham.
The initiative comes during an extended bin worker strike where a number of new pay offers have apparently been refused by Biffa workers who are part of the GMB Union.
Residents will be able to take their bagged household rubbish, not recycling, to the site in the Vicarage Lane Car Park (Freedom Leisure) from Wednesday, between 8am and 2pm.
A spokesperson from Wealden District Council said: “These facilities are for the disposal of bagged regular household rubbish i.e., the black bin bags that would normally go into your rubbish bin. No garden waste, recycling, electrical or any other waste will be accepted.”
This facility will only be open when the bin lorry is present. Any rubbish deposited outside of the dates and times stated below will be treated as a fly tip and may lead to a fixed penalty notice and/or criminal prosecution.
