Hailsham Under 14’s Cricket Club Match Report

Date:

Hailsham U14’s made the short journey to the Saffrons to take on Eastbourne in the East Sussex league.

After winning the toss and inserting the hosts, Sully Hallett’s team could not have started better, with Sam Mills (2-6) taking two wickets with the first two balls of the match! After the early breakthrough Will Swingler and Josh Dowsett also bowled really well for the visitors.

Hailsham’s ground fielding was a total contrast to last week’s shambolic performance and this pressure produced further wickets. Fenton Webster (2-15) and Ed Horrigan (1-12) were the other wicket takers AS Hailsham restrict Eastbourne to 96-5 from their 20 overs.

Hailsham knew they needed to bat well as Eastbourne were going to come out firing and with Sully Hallett (46*) and Cian Murphy (7) they made a great start. Running singles well and punishing anything loose. Mills (18) was next in and his partnership with Hallett set up the game for the visitors, before he walked past a straight delivery.

Webster’s brief but effective (12) added fresh momentum to the chase and it was left to captain Hallett to steer the boys to victory with back to back fours of the 16th over. A great team performance and just the response that the team and coaches needed after last week’s opener. The MBD Carpentry man of the match went to captain Sully Hallett for a mature and skilful innings.
