Officials have urged anyone in Hailsham who falls into the 70 year old and over category to get in touch with their GP, if they have not received a COVID vaccine.
90% of the targeted Tiers 1-4 have now been vaccinated in Sussex, with focus now being put on the over 65s and the expanded group of ‘extremely clinically vulnerable’.
Hailsham County Councillor, Gerard Fox said: “It’s great news that the vaccine rollout to Hailsham residents has continued to progress successfully. If you are over 70 and unvaccinated, please as a matter of urgency contact your GP surgery to arrange a vaccination.”
Covid spread in Wealden is on the down slope, but Hailsham and Polegate still display an elevated number of cases. The NHS opened a COVID testing unit in Hailsham, on an appointment basis.
Mr Fox added: “If you have been vaccinated, I cannot emphasise enough the need to continue to follow the lockdown guidance and understand that immunity to the virus only builds slowly. Once again, we owe a huge vote of thanks to our GP surgeries, volunteers and NHS staff. We’ll get through this. Stay safe.”
