HIGH Street beauty and chemist chain Boots has announced its plans of closing hundreds of stores will be completed by the end of summer.
It is yet another blow for the Labour Government as they get to grips with an economy across the UK which is under increasing pressure.
Boots has been a staple of the British High Street for decades but with more turning to online shopping many businesses are struggling to attract new customers.
As reported in the Pharmaceutical Journal, Boots’ parent company Walgreens Boots Alliance stated the closures are part of its plans to cut costs and save US$800million (nearly £620million).
Walgreens Boots Alliance first made the announcement of closing 300 of its stores in June 2023, which is part of the company’s bigger plans to close 650 shops.
As of the end of May this year, 581 stores had already been shut and the remaining ones is expected to be closed by the end of summer.
In Sussex, the following stores that have been impacted:
- 53 Grove Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4TX;
- C/O Waitrose, Crowne Centre, Old Town, Eastbourne, BN21 1HR;
- 4 Collington Mansions, Collington Avenue, Bexhill-On-Sea, TN39 3PU;
- 17-19 St James Street, Brighton, BN2 1RF;
- C/O Waitrose, High Street, Worthing, BN11 1LL;
- C/O Waitrose, West Street, East Grinstead, RH19 4YZ;
- 80-82 High Street, Littlehampton, BN17 5DX
