A man has suffered serious injuries after being thrown from horse carriage in Hailsham yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).
Police received a number of calls around 5:30pm reporting a cart drawn by a black horse was at the A22 Boship Roundabout with no driver – only a dog onboard.
The horse and cart turned onto the A271 heading towards Herstmonceux, passing through Lower Horsebridge and causing significant traffic congestion, before the exhausted horse collapsed in London Road, Hailsham.
It was then discovered it had thrown its rider after possibly being spooked. Officers who attended reported the horse was back on its feet and would be seen by a vet.
A man in his 60s, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance.
