Images from local news photographer, Dan Jessup, show the chaos caused after ‘suspected chemical substances’ were taken to Hailsham Police Station this afternoon (Friday).
All roads in and out of the centre were closed to traffic and a cordon was put in place around the building after the substances were handed to officers at the station following a house clearance.
Bomb disposal teams were called to the scene and specialists entered the station where they were checked and confirmed as safe, according to Sussex Police.
Images show the numerous road closures put in place causing traffic chaos for many hours.
The cordon has now been lifted and roads in the area have reopened.
Police have thanked the public for their patience and understanding during this time.
