A road near Hailsham was closed yesterday (Wednesday) after selfish flytippers put motorists at risk after illegally dumping rubbish in the carriageway.
Wealden District Council has launched an investigation after the Council’s cleansing contractor, Biffa, cleared a considerable amount of rubbish from Rickey Lane.
The road was closed for 90 minutes whilst crews cleaned up after the flytippers who left items such as wood, rubble and building materials across a large stretch of road which had to be cordoned off to road users.
A spokesperson from Wealden District Council told Hailsham News; “Investigations are underway to identify the person(s) responsible for damaging our environment and blocking this country lane endangering road users. We would like to remind all householders that they have a duty of care to ensure that contractors removing waste from their home, including scrap metal, is registered with the Environment Agency as a Waste Carrier. If your rubbish is found dumped you must be able to prove who you employed to take it away.”
