Maria Caulfield MP welcomes Sainsbury’s commitment to the ‘Buy British’ campaign

Date:

THE MP for Lewes, Maria Caulfield, has welcomed that Sainsbury’s has become the largest retailer to be involved in the ‘Buy British’ campaign.

The campaign was started by Conservative MP for Bosworth, Dr Luke Evans, and calls for UK supermarkets to make it easier for consumers to buy British produce when shopping for groceries online.

Sainsbury’s has now launched a ‘Best of British’ webpage on their site which spotlights over 450 100 per cent British-sourced products as well as great British recipes such as a British Beef Wellington and a Big British Salad.

This page is in addition to existing British category filters, dedicated British produce section and flags on products.

Supermarket chains Morrisons and Aldi have also joined the campaign and have ‘Buy British’ sections on their respective websites.

Commenting on the news, Maria Caulfield MP said: “I am glad that Sainsbury’s are backing British farmers, it is important that we all do our part to back British farmers and that we value their hard work producing some of the highest quality food in the world and contributing billions to our economy, while looking after the countryside.”
