Fears have been raised in Hailsham after a woman’s 14-year-old daughter was followed and then chased by a man.
The panic-stricken mum contacted Hailsham News, saying her daughter and a 13-year-old friend were watched by the man while they were in a Horsebridge play park, and he then chased them as they went to leave.
It comes after a number of posts on social media suggesting groups of men have been gathering near schools and looking in windows of homes in the town.
The mum, who asked not to be identified told us: “I’m so worried, I simply don’t know what to do. I reported the incident to Sussex Police who told me they are aware of individuals living in the town who are known to be following girls locally.”
She added: “I just want to warn other parents with teenagers about this as it’s only a matter of time until the worst happens.”
Sussex Police simply told Hailsham News: “Police were made aware of a man acting suspiciously in the Horsebridge area of Hailsham at around 11am on Sunday (26 February). Words of advice were given to those who reported the incident.”
In a separate incident, a dog walker said she was followed by a man at the Gleneagles Park this afternoon (Tuesday). Suzanne Ash put this warning on Facebook: “This post is just to make people aware he is around this area and to be careful and vigilant when walking in quiet areas. I’m also going to report it to the police so they are aware he’s been spotted again behaving in a way that makes people feel uncomfortable.”
