New road surface disappointment on Hailsham Bridge

Date:

WORKS eventually took place last night in an attempt to improve the road surface on one of the town’s busiest roads.

There were hopes of a complete resurface of the bridge on South Road when the works were announced recently – but ‘interim’ repairs have now been carried out ahead of further works later in the year.

Motorists took to Facebook this morning after seeing the patching work on the bridge. One comment said: “What a complete ****-up they’ve done of the bridge, patching won’t last 5 minutes with the amount of traffic using it.”

A reply to that correctly stated: “This is only interim works on the bridge according to the letter I received. Full re tarmac going to be completed later in the year.”

The initial plan was to close the bridge for two nights – but workers informed our reporter the work is now complete.
