Person plucked to safety after boat gets into difficulty in Newhaven Harbour

A person has been winched to safety after the Coastguard and rescue boats received reports of a vessel in distress.

The incident happened yesterday (July 4) afternoon in Newhaven Harbour and the person was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “Shortly after 4.15pm, HM Coastguard received reports of a vessel in difficulty in Newhaven Harbour.

“Newhaven and Birling Gap coastguard rescue teams were tasked alongside a HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter and Newhaven RNLI lifeboat.

“The person on board was winched from the vessel and taken to hospital.”
