FIVE Acre Field in Eastbourne was transformed into a vibrant hub of celebration and remembrance yesterday (June 28), as the town hosted its annual Armed Forces Day event.
The day honoured the courage and commitment of current and former servicemen and women with a packed programme of performances, tributes and family-friendly entertainment.
Kicking off with a stirring march-on by the Eastbourne Pipe Band and veterans, the event officially opened with speeches from the Deputy Lieutenant, Rear Admiral John Kingwell and Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Margaret Bannister, also joined dignitaries and guests to pay tribute.
The field was alive with activity throughout the day, from the ever-popular dog show and German staff car tours to thrilling falconry displays and the return of the incredible Imps Motorcycle Display Team, whose stunts wowed the crowds.
Live music kept spirits high on the main stage, with nostalgic hits from Rockin Mike, Alex Bryce and Jackie Marsh & The Fabulous Jackettes, followed by an finale from Diamond Project 1066. Children were also entertained with dinosaur-themed games and penalty shootouts.
A highlight came just after midday with a dramatic fly-by from an RAF Chinook helicopter, reminding everyone of the real-life heroes the event aimed to celebrate.
The day concluded with a final address and a poignant performance of the Last Post.
