Hailsham children in school years 1 to 11 are being urged to get their creative juices flowing as part of a competition to help celebrate the Centenary of the town’s Pavilion.
Hailsham Pavilion is a Grade II listed cinema and concert hall built in 1921. After remaining empty, it was refurbished in 1993 and reopened in 2000. Hailsham Pavilion was originally opened as a cinema on 28 November 1921 by local Justice A. K. Burtenshaw JP, with The Kid starring and directed by Charlie Chaplin as the first picture.
It was also recently named as one of the best cinemas in UK by Time out magazine.
2021 see’s the 100th Anniversary of the unique building and the competition will see the winning poster printed and framed for display at the Pavilion. The winner will receive a £50 prize plus two runners up will receive £25. All entrants will receive a free cinema ticket.
The organisers suggest the theme of the posters should be “100 Years of The Pavilion in Hailsham, 1921 – 2021”, and should be A4 portrait, hand drawn or digital. Single images, collages or montages can be part of your design.
Entries must be received by August 31st. You can submit them digitally to hailshampavilion@outlook.com or physically to Hailsham Pavilion, George Street, Hailsham BN27 1AE. Please title emails or envelopes as “Hailsham Pavilion Poster Competition”. Full contact details, including your name and the name of a parent or guardian must be included. An email or telephone contact should also be included.
Competition Rules:
Strictly one ticket per entrant. Multiple entries not allowed.
The winning poster will be printed and framed for display at the Pavilion. It will also be used across social media, the press and at locations across the area. Any entries may be part of a larger display. (By entering you give your consent for this).
Who can enter?
Any young person of school age who lives in the catchment area of Hailsham Community College and its feeder primary schools. This includes students currently in years 1 to 11 (or young people of that age).
What are the rules and requirements?
The poster must be wholly the work of the applicant. It must conform to the following:
Hand drawn images are better. You can use images from elsewhere so long as you have permission. Please be aware that most images taken from any internet site are NOT LICENSED FOR THIS USE. If you use an image from the internet you must include the details of the site so that we can check it. Use of an unlicensed image will invalidate your entry.
