Stringers Earn Late Point

Date:

Hailsham Town U21’s bounced back from two goals behind to earn a point on Tuesday night at The Beaconsfield.

Visitors AFC Uckfield – who inflicted a heavy defeat away at The Oaks – scored twice within the opening 8 minutes to leave Stringers supporters fearing a repeat, but as the half wore on Hailsham gradually worked their way back into the game.

The visitors would also see an effort smash against the woodwork, before on 39 Hailsham pulled one back when a good free kick into the box was put past the ‘keeper by an Uckfield defender under pressure from the busy Charlie Playford.

After the interval both sides continued to have chances, with both ‘keepers in action and another strike against the woodwork from the visitors. Hailsham though continued to threaten, and after a spell of pressure, levelled on 86 when Adam Madelin applied the final touch to a corner. Hailsham could have snatched it late on – Liam McCann very unlucky to hit the post, with the rebound first hacked off the line and then deflected behind.

The Stringers U21’s have two more games to go, and could still avoid finishing bottom of the table, if they can beat Seaford Town on Thursday evening (7.30pm) and earn at least a point against Saltdean United on Monday (7.30pm), although they would also need tonight’s opponents to do them a favour against Seaford on Monday.

Tomorrow night it is the turn of the Veterans side, who host Eastbourne Town in a repeat of last season’s Eastbourne FA Veterans final at The Beaconsfield, kickoff 7.30pm, free entry and clubhouse open. The week concludes with the Presentation Night on Friday, with all players, volunteers, officers and supporters welcome (7.30pm start)
