A Hailsham-based aerial filming company has been awarded a licence to operate commercially from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The licence makes Sussex Air Imaging one of the longest serving drone operators in the county – it was established in 2014. Since then, the company’s work has been seen on programmes such as BBC News, Flog It, Channel 4’s George Clarkes Amazing Spaces and BBC Songs of Praise with Katherine Jenkins.
Using state-of-the-art equipment, Sussex Air Imaging has to renew its licence every 12 months and has to abide by very strict flying rules. The company specialises in drone filming, property photography, development projects, TV/film work and corporate film production.
A Permission for Commercial Operations is a legal requirement for ANY drone operator working for reward in the UK.
In 2019, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced the Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service which makes it compulsory for any drone operator, commercial or not, flying an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to register their aircraft with the authority. This should not be confused with a Permission for Commercial Operations which is a far more complicated, expensive and thorough system of working.
