MARIA Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, met with HRH King Charles III in Buckingham Palace where he held a reception for nurses and midwives to celebrate 75 years of the NHS. The King was also celebrating his 75th birthday.
At the event, The King hosted over 400 nurses and midwives as part of the NHS’ 75th Anniversary. He was also surprised with a birthday song by the NHS choir.
Maria Caulfield, a Minister in the Health Department, met with The King as part of the event.
As well as being a Minister in the Health Department, responsible for Women’s Health and Mental Health, she is also a registered nurse. Maria became a nurse after leaving school and went on to specialise in cancer treatment and became a Senior Sister at the Royal Marsden NHS Hospital.
When she was elected as MP for Lewes in 2015 she continued to keep her nursing registration and still works shifts to this day.
Maria Caulfield MP said: “I was extremely honoured to have met King Charles, It is wonderful that he was able to recognise the hard work of our nurses and midwives in the NHS and it was a pleasure to have been able to see him on his 75th Birthday with it also being the 75th Anniversary of the NHS”
