Tractor destroys section of 150 year-old Market wall

Date:

A clear-up operation is underway this evening (Monday) after a tractor towing a trailer destroyed a section of wall at the Hailsham Market.

Witnesses have told Hailsham News they heard a loud crash as the driver misjudged the turning into the market.

The incident happened around 8:20 this evening – residents near to the market rushed to the scene to help in the clear-up operation.

The wall, built between 1868 and 1871, has been the victim of numerous incidents over the years and has been repaired after.
