Hailsham u11s enjoyed an impressive victory at Mayfield on a beautiful, sunny evening.
Batting first, debutant Freddie Cable struck some early boundaries for Hailsham and the momentum was maintained by Sam Andrews (28) and Hari Bala (26), who both made good use of the pull shot.
A second debutant, Fletcher Chapman batted aggressively and Theo Veiga smashed his first ball back over the bowler’s head for six. A flurry of sixes from skipper Josh Dowsett (30) at the end of the innings saw Hailsham close on 350-6.
Mayfield began their reply in positive fashion but some tight fielding and bowling meant they were never able to threaten the Hailsham score. As the hosts pushed for runs, Hailsham executed a number of run-outs, with Theo Veiga taking an impressive high catch whilst staring into the sun.
Mayfield closed on 224-14.
The MBD Carpentry man-of-the-match award is shared by the whole team, as every player contributed to a pleasing win.
