ANTI-RACISM supporters were out in force in both Brighton and Hastings as fears over violent clashes with anti-immigration groups failed to materialise on Wednesday (August 7) evening.
Counter-protesters, such as those from Hastings Stand Up To Racism, gathered at Cambridge Gardens to “protect the town from a possible attack” from far-right protesters who had planned a demonstration in Hastings.
Likewise, thousands of counter-protesters assembled in Brighton town centre to defy any far-right movement.
There were fears of widespread violence in 100 towns across the country, including Brighton and Hastings tonight, and Crawley being planned for August 9.

Sussex Police deployed more officers in the targeted towns and said they are fully prepared to stop anyone who carry out acts of public disorder.

The violence and riots across in recent days across the country have caused panic in the streets in Sussex towns. Businesses have either closed their shops today or shut early to brace for the anticipated riots.
Some residents, particularly those in Brighton and Hastings, have been afraid to leave their homes.
However, anti far-right demonstrators have clearly outnumbered anti-immigration groups as shown in the videos, and the overwhelming turnout has seemingly doused any planned havoc by far-right groups.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, former MP of Kemptown and Peacehaven, said he was “proud” to see residents turning up to support unity.
Proud to see so many Brighton residents turn up to say no to far right terrorists today. They were totally overwhelmed by our peaceful demonstration.
Great to see both Labour and Green united in our city on this issue.@sianberry pic.twitter.com/uTakG2tBsq
