COASTGUARDS were called to manage a crowd who were standing too close to a distressed seal at Birling Gap.
The seal was stranded on the rocks and the crowd was causing it significant distress. The seal had been trying to climb on the rocks to get away.
The coastguards arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon (April 3) to attend to the animal.
Birling Gap Coastguard wrote on their Facebook page: “We dispersed the crowd and once we were satisfied the seal had no visible injuries, the team waited for the tide to come in and waved goodbye.
“We would like to remind everyone when visiting the coast, if they come across ocean wildlife to keep a safe distance and if ever unsure to please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Although they look cute they can be dangerous.”
