Videos: River Cuckmere takes hold of Hellingly and Alfriston

Date:

The villages of Alfriston and Hellingly have again suffered from floodwater today as the River Cuckmere burst its banks.

Alfriston was passable this morning following a night of heavy rain, however, the high tide this afternoon caused the river to burst its banks again flooding the Willows car park area, Lullington Road, North Street and Alfriston Road.

In Hellingly, Church Lane was closed throughout the day causing chaos during peak times as floodwater covered the road through the village making it impassable.

Our drone camera captures the floodwaters in both villages where roads and the river are unrecognisable.
