Woman and Child rescued from car in floodwater

Date:

Fire crews were called to a country lane this afternoon (Sunday) after a woman and her child became stuck in their vehicle in flood water.

It happened on Mill Lane in Hellingly where crews from Eastbourne Fire Station rescued the pair from their Ford car which broke down in four feet of water.

The vehicle was then towed away from the flooding and the mother and child are said to be safe and well.

The area has been flooded since heavy rainfall over the past three days – many roads and fields around Hellingly are still underwater.
