The entire nation is in mourning after the Queen, the longest serving Monarch in living memory, passed away on Thursday 8th September 2022, at the age of 96.
Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne in 1952 after the death of her father King George VI and served the country with distinction ever since, despite some turbulent times during her reign, including the death of her eldest son Prince Charles’s first wife Princess Diana in a car crash in Paris.
One must feel sympathy for Prince Charles, who is not only mourning the loss of his beloved mother but must also take on the responsibility of assuming the role of monarch of a country which is riven by discord and strife.
It will be no easy task. His mother’s legacy will take a lot to live up to but Charles has the experience and know how to make a success of an incredibly onerous task, with his loyal Queen consort Camilla Parker-Bowles.
But, for now, the future is not the main concern. Instead we must mourn a quite remarkable woman who reigned over us for more than 70 years, through thick and thin.
The Queen’s children, Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward, were at her bedside lending their support to the very end and we must take solace in the fact they were with her when it mattered most.
What a remarkable woman she was who must be remembered by all with great affection.
God save our gracious Queen is the perfect epitaph as we prepare to welcome Charles as our new King.
