Investigations are continuing in Hailsham this afternoon after suspicious items were handed into the town’s Police station.
The town centre is currently in lockdown with all main routes in and out of the town closed to traffic.
Police have revealed suspected chemical substances were handed in to the front office following a house clearance.
Bomb disposal teams are now on the scene to make the area safe. There are lengthy traffic jams across town with some motorists reporting queues from Horam.
Police are asking residents to stay clear of the town centre whilst the incident is dealt with.
