Police have closed the A22 Hailsham Bypass to motorists this evening (Wednesday) after another water mains burst.
Drivers have been tackling around 12 inches of water which is flowing out of the troublesome burst main, by the entrance of Bushy Wood, which we’ve reported on several times since 2015.
South East Water has made a statement saying: “We’re really sorry to those of you who are experiencing low water pressure or no water at the moment. This has been caused by a burst main which we are trying to fix as quickly as we can. As soon as the repairs have been completed, your water will return to normal.”
They added: “During this recent period of hot weather, we’ve seen a 50 per cent increase in leaks and bursts across our supply network caused by ground movement due to the lack of rainfall and drying of the soil.”
