Hailsham is suffering yet another water main burst which has caused traffic chaos this morning (Thursday).
Traffic queued from the Eagles Roundabout to Polegate as around 12 inches of water has flooded both lanes of the dual carriageway. The road was closed from Polegate causing miles of tailbacks throughout the day.
There were few reportsof low water pressure in the town.
UPDATE 13:30pm:
South East Water’s Distribution Manager Andrew Davin said: “We had a leak on a nine inch diameter water main on the A22 at Hailsham this morning.
“Our technicians are now on site and have isolated the leak. We are working with the highway authority and once traffic management is in place we will be able to excavate the site and effect repairs.
“Eight customers have been affected and we hope to restore their supplies as quickly as possible this afternoon.
“Unfortunately leaks and bursts do happen on our high pressure, extensive network of underground pipes which carry 521 million litres of water everyday through 9,000 miles of mains and more than six million joints.
“We work around the clock to find and fix leaks and bursts and also have a £424 million investment programme underway.”
UPDATE 15:30pm:
The road is reported to be fully opwn again.
