Due to heavy rainfall yesterday and overnight, a flood alert has been issued to residents of Hellingly and other areas close to the River Cuckmere.
More than half a month’s rain has been recorded at Cowbeech over the last 24 hours, and The Met Office has now issued a Flood Alert a warning that flooding could affect fields, rural roads and gardens on Station Road, Church Lane, and Church Road, Hellingly.
The agency suggests the river should begin to fall by 7pm this evening.
The river will be sensitive to any additional rainfall over the next few weeks. More rain is forecast on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and flood risk could return.
Motorists are being urged not to drive through deep flood water where possible.
