TWO runners from local group Eastbourne Rovers Athletic Club are celebrating after taking first and second places at the Hailsham Community Run yesterday (18 May).
It was the third Hailsham Community Run, which boasted 1,000 participants in four races, aimed at all abilities and was designed to be fully inclusive.
The 5k run, which comprises a challenging route around the town, saw Eastbourne runners Luke Tomsett (472) come first with an impressive time of 17m.
Close behind was Richard Davis (343) finishing in 17m 25s, ahead of third place, Portslade Headgehoppers Matthew Chee who completed it in 18m 39s.
The races included a 1-Mile event, sponsored by Alinker & Colston, a 3k run, sponsored by Hailsham Town Council, a 10k, sponsored by Hallmark Glazed Extensions and a 5k, sponsored by The Royal Indian.
Organiser Mary Laxton said: “This has been a record year for participants and we are looking to make it even bigger and better next year, with an aim of welcoming around 1,200 entrants.
“The day has been incredible – the sun was shining, the town was packed with people, and the atmosphere was amazing. I’d like to thank all the volunteers who ensure the event goes ahead every year, and all the sponsors and marshals who have all made this the biggest year yet.”
The next event has been confirmed for Sunday, 17th May 2026, with registration open from 1st October 2025.
