Hailsham Cricket Club Match Report

Date:

1st XI v Hellingly 1st XI:

Hailsham’s 1st XI welcomed The Hellingly 1st XI on a day where we the bad weather that had been forecast avoided the Hailsham Rec. After losing the toss Hailsham went out to bat. The opening pair set a strong foundation of 116 before the first wicket fell, Rob Wilkinson scoring 21 and Ollie McDonald scoring a boundary laden 73 in the process. After Matt Dawber (5) fell, Simon Dunning (89) put on an explosive display that bolstered the Hailsham innings. In the meanwhile, Tom Carpenter added 9 with Stan Garbett and Andrew Anthony getting a duck each. A dogged stint from Tom McDonald (10) and a vintage start from James Bellett (19) was enough to take Hailsham over the 250 run mark. A flash cameo from Liam Fenwick (16*) with help from Shankar Bala (4*) took Hailsham to a total of 288/9.

When it came for Hailsham’s turn with the ball the opening bowlers were unlucky not to get a wicket. T. McDonald (0-17), Anthony (0-8) and Bellett (0-32) endeavoured to no avail. It wasn’t until the 12th over that the first wicket fell courtesy of Shanker Bala, who put on an imperious performance claiming EIGHT of the 9 available wickets posting the unbelievable figures of 8-15. Dunning (1-10) claimed the final scalp sealing a definitive win for Hailsham.
